Rafting Trip Week!

In July, Carson went on a rafting trip in Idaho with some of the men in his family. He had a great time and loved being back in the Northwest and back in a kayak on the river! They camped and rafted for about five days, and he was supposed to be gone a week.

My cousin Morgan came over the weekend that he was gone, which was great because it broke up the time a little for me. She drove up on a Thursday night after work so that we could get right to a busy weekend of nothing in particular!

On Friday, we went to the beach! In this picture, we both have strange smudges on our heads; they're from the magazine we put on our faces to block out the sun. Apparently magazine sticks to sweat.

Carson and Caleb are avid boiled peanut haters, while Morgan and I both love them. One of her hopes for the weekend was to find boiled peanuts to buy and... success!

We'd planned to go to museums and explore the state capitol on Saturday, but we woke up to a rainy day instead. We put our rain jackets on instead and went to the mall. Morgan will have to come back for museums another time.

That night, we got to work on a number of projects. Morgan made two maxi skirts, while I made a moss-covered letter and etched my sugar and flour jars.

We made smoothies that night, and had difficulty getting the ingredients together.

On Sunday, we woke up and got ready for church, went to the wrong church (sort of), got misdirected by Siri on the way to the right church, and finally made it only to discover that we weren't big fans of that church. We consoled ourselves with Jimmy Johns for lunch.

Then she went home!

I spent the rest of the week trying to entertain myself until Carson returned. He was supposed to get in late on Wednesday night, but called me Wednesday afternoon to tell me that his flight out was cancelled due to a thunderstorm. Despite trying to get on an earlier flight out, he spent 22 hours in the Newark airport on about three hours of sleep (and airport sleep at that, with those announcements every thirty seconds) and finally got in to Jacksonville, only to drive another three hours home on Thursday. He slept until noon the next two days and finally got enough rest. He didn't take many pictures, and quite a few of them were of people's feet, so here are some of the decent ones.

While at home, he got to eat black licorice ice cream which is his very favorite kind. No one in Ohio or Florida has seemed to carry it (and with good reason, I'd say), so it was a must for him. He said that no one told him that it was all over his face.

And a few from the day they got off the river.

And a picture of the group. Carson's brother is to his right and his dad to his left. Carson is the tan one.

Jillian's Visit: Day Four

On Saturday, we decided to plan to have no set time to get ready and go, since we hadn't been so wise about getting enough sleep. When we decided to get out the door, it was in a more relaxed manner. We went to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho! It's one of my favorite places and not so far away but I hadn't been since my first year here (three years ago) so it was new to both of us.

We found that we were in the mood to eat as soon as we arrived, so we settled down in a little restaurant. We had salad and bread first and then lunch - garlic chicken pizza for Jillian and macaroni and cheese for me. Should I be embarrassed by wanting that? It was a filling lunch and I got about 1/4 way through before asking for a box.

Once lunch was over, we explored the "beach" (Couer d'Alene is on a lake)

After our exploration of the beach and water were over, we decided to browse the main strip of the city and go through some little shops. It reminds me a bit of Beaufort in its set up, and the stores had lots of neat little knick knacks. I even picked up a Christmas gift for Carson!

I brought this home for Carson: white chocolate covered gummy bears. The nice thing about it was that this was not even the slightest temptation for me. Also, it was colorful (you can't tell in the picture). We watched a movie that night and relaxed after we returned.

getaway

Spring break fell on the last weekend of March. I got the last three days of the week off to have a break for spring break, and we went on a little trip!
We went about 1.5 hours away to Sandpoint, Idaho. I'd been there before for a little daytrip with friends, but it was new to Carson!

The first thing we did was take a nap. I woke up first...

This was the view from our balcony room

I took a similar picture to this one when I went two years ago and Dad asked if I was going to take another. I did!

Carson has said that if he could be any animal, it would be a lion. So here he is embracing his alter-ego.

...and his inner child

Yes, he's taller than me but not that much... I held the camera at arm's length and shot up.

Stormy

Sunset
(there would be a sunrise picture but we were on vacation with black-out curtains... no light = more sleep)

Morning

Dinner. This sounded better to us than the nice meal we'd planned on.

We watched a lot of TV because it was raining and because we don't have one of our own.

Really cloudy

I remember buying these but not eating them... it was right after the pizza.
Things we did on this trip:
-walked around and looked in cute little shops
-ate mexican (I wasn't feeling hungry so I had a salad... I hate having salads at restaurants because I feel high maintenance)
-made Carson's maiden voyage to a dollar store that was well-stocked (he didn't want to initially but ended up finding so much stuff)
-ate stuffed-crust pizza
-ate gelato
-walked around the beach
-visited a fun little shop with danish and finnish things (that's Carson's heritage)
-went to a yummy cafe for breakfast and ended up with lunch food
