lazy sunday afternoons

Recently, Carson's store was remodeled. Carson offered to do two 8 hour shifts with a four hour gap in between (5-9pm). He got home at 6am and proceeded to snooze. He had a difficult time sleeping during the day, so I gave him NyQuil (only drowsy medicine we have) and tacked a sheet up to our window. Contrary to the picture, it made the room much darker.

After Sleeping Beauty was awake, he wanted to go to the park. So we chatted with the ducks and played in the leaves.

It was a chilly Sunday afternoon. Our stay at the park was maybe 15 minutes. Enough to play in the leaves and get home to our warm apartment.

I baked chicken with bread crumbs, a little paprika and other spices which we ate with pineapple, my favorite. Mmmm... a lovely Sunday.

I should also take a second to mention that today is Granddaddy's birthday! Happy birthday, Granddaddy. I hope your day is fantastic!

You Are My Sunshine

I was in the mood to paint something the other day. I gathered my supplies, my idea (in the righthand corner), and went to work.

The intention was to make this a gift, but as I worked on it, I liked it more and more.

The colors were bright and fun...

So I liked it so much that I decided to give it as a gift but keep it here... I gave it to Carson that night...
However, I AM willing to compose a similar piece of art if anyone wants one. Our entire apartment has been painted and sewn by me - I'd love to exercise my creativity and get it out of here :)

happy birthday molly!

My dear old roommate and friend Molly turned 22 on November 3. Her favorite cake is German Chocolate so I was commissioned by her husband to make one. Very scary, since I wasn't sure how German Chocolate is supposed to taste. I guess it tasted fine, because Molly, Jerrad and Carson all approved.
Here are pictures from the little "party" at Molly and Jerrad's.
We had pizza, cake and ice cream, and watched Despicable Me (Carson really loved it if anyone is looking for a birthday gift)

Here is a link to a past birthday post for Molly

missionary training?

It's sort of funny that this is the kind of "hardship" I'm posting about because let's be honest, it's not a hardship.
At the moment, I have sore arms. Very sore. Why's that?
The washing machine decided to be ridiculous and fill up with water and then just sit there, all wet and covered in soap. So sweet Stephanie and I wrung the water out of the clothes, I hauled them upstairs (it was heavy) and rinsed the soap out in the bathtub. After that, they were ready to be wrung out again and thrown in the dryer.
Now I'm sore. And sort of embarrassed that I consider this a hardship. What an easy life I really lead!

the three blind mice and pumpkin carving

For Halloween, this year, we DID dress up. There was a costume party the Saturday night before Halloween and we did group costumes... Can you guess what we were?

...the three blind mice!
Our three guys were the farmers who cut off their tails with a carving knife but we didn't get a picture. They wore plaid, hats and boots... (and no one told them that it was the farmer's wife who cut off the tails...)

On Halloween itself, we didn't dress up because we were going to school. I did turn one of Carson's t-shirts inside out and paint this on it: (ps - tshirts are HARD to paint!)

that night, we carved pumpkins!

We enjoyed chicken/artichoke pizza first

This guy is grossed out by the pumpkin guts... I imagine it's more the smell than anything.

Mine is an owl. It didn't turn out so well.

Carson's is your typical scary jack-o-lantern - at least you can tell what his is!

Other things on halloween: I wore spider earrings from Carson's mom
Never carve your pumpkin top like this - it takes FOREVER
Carson bought red velvet cupcakes for the occasion
I roasted pumpkin seeds. I'm the only one who likes them, which means more for me to enjoy!

Jillian's Visit: The Final Post

part five
part six
part seven

We continued our tradition of things we shouldn't by visiting Madeline's downtown around lunchtime on Jillian's last real day in Spokane. I had hot chocolate and Jillian had quiche and tomato basil soup that smelled wonderful. We split a piece of "Midnight Sin" chocolate cake afterward. She can handle more chocolate than I, so my portion was boxed up for her later.

We were on a time schedule because we had to get ready for Kidz Club. Our harvest party was a costumed event and that meant that we needed to join in the fun. Jillian borrowed Heidi's scrubs and stethoscope and was a nurse while I was transformed into a hippie. Kidz Club parties have a different format, so we opened with songs and a lesson before breaking into stations for the kids to do activities.

Scariest part of the day? I was asked to paint faces. I've never done that before. Most of the kids just wanted words and simple things, which I can do. Thankfully Isabel (crazy blonde wig) got the complicated "zombie" requests.

Here we have some of the Kidz Club leaders (the others were taking kids home): Heidi (tin man), Olivia (pirate), Bethany (raisin), Keith (himself), Rick (Superman), me (hippie), Emily (Indian). Missing are Brittany (Raggedy Ann) and Isabel (fairy)... their costumes are in pictures above.

Steph was "getting ready for a party when she got electrocuted" and Rachel was "Swedish Fish". Clever ladies.

We returned from Kidz Club and Skyped with Emily. We made dinner (spaghetti squash and meatloaf) and stayed up late talking against our better judgment.

All too early (4am) we got up and headed for the airport to make sure Jillian got there in time for her flight.
Goodbye Jillian! It was a wonderful visit!
