Shattered

Every time I've dropped my phone or it's fallen, I've cringed a little as I tentatively reached to pick it up, expecting to see that shattered screen I've seen so many others experience.

I've been an iPhone owner for nearly three years and as careful as I am with the thing, I knew my day was coming. I expected it to be day one, or day-after-warranty or something like that. I definitely didn't expect to make it to this point in my iPhone journey with an unscathed device.

Today, I put my phone on top of my planner in my arms as I walked out of work, instead of tucking it inside my bag as usual. When I opened the door to leave, I felt something slip out of my grasp and expected it to be the planner and not the iPhone. But it was.

I looked down, surprised but not that surprised. It was face down, and when I picked it up it was cracked. I've heard people say that it's fine when it falls on the corners but not when it falls flat, and it had fallen flat, straight to its shattered glass death.

I was surprised by my reaction. My heart didn't get a little adrenaline rush, I didn't make any exclamations at all, just picked it up to do a quick examination, and continued the trek to my vehicle. It was like I knew all along that this would happen. It wasn't day one or day 101, but it happened: I was now the shamed owner of a shattered glass screen, my sin of irresponsibility visible for all to see. I am why we can't have nice things.

To be fair, this happened to Carson several months ago, so I feel slightly less guilt, and I do TRY to be responsible with it. I'm not sure at all why screens are made of glass at all, surely rubber or even plexiglass would be a better solution for those of us with butterfingers. And why didn't my screen protector do anything to help?

But there it is, I cracked my phone screen. I've joined rank with people squinting at their phones, uncertain if what they typed is correct because their words are marred by veins of cracked glass.

In short: irresponsibility isn't worth it.

Halloween Weekend 2015

October Pictures

Setting up the display case at work, I noticed these. I've never seen anyone write on a bagel before and it made me laugh. For the record, I threw them away and started fresh :)

I made this as part of the wedding gift for Chloe and Ricky.

On our way to Beaufort, Carson and I stopped at a Burger King to use the bathroom and felt bad for not buying anything, so he bought an ICEE and asked for a crown. He wore it the whole way to Beaufort.

Outside the mall, we noticed these particularly pretty acorns on the ground, so we filled up a shopping bag with them and put them on display.

Carson got me these flowers the day I gave my two weeks at my job! I was scared to do it because I'm scared of everything, but I have and as I'm writing this, I'm a day away from starting my new one! Can't believe the coffee chapter of my life has come to a close!

We went looking for Halloween costume pieces and found some interesting things at the Halloween store.

And the poop emoji.

Trying on my costume a few weeks out.

Working on the Wario hat.

The day after I gave my notice, another coworker gave hers for her dream job in Philadelphia! We had the same last day of work.

Just holding a baby in the drive-thru. Tooootally normal.

Girls Weekend

Carson went to Boston for a conference at Harvard and had a marvelous time! A colleague of his went with and they stayed with his Dad's cousin in Beverly, MA. They got to explore all the hot spots in Boston, by which of course I mean the touristy things. Carson loved the city and now I can't wait to go visit!

Meanwhile I worked and got takeout and did crafts. I don't hate being by myself, so I didn't mind the long weekend alone, and I got a lot done.

On a whim, I called Jillian and asked what she thought of meeting for lunch in Jacksonville that Saturday. She was all for it, so we got together at around lunchtime at a place she'd been before. It was so good. I had a sandwich and a butternut squash soup with red peppers.

And Wren girl and I got to hang out when she got a little tired of sitting still. She charmed the wait staff too

We went to a toy store and looked around for a little while and then browsed some other local stores. It was fun!

After exploring, we went to a little park to hang out. I gave Graceanna her birthday presents and they were a hit!

Wren meanwhile took advantage of my distraction and made off with my phone, which I think is a hilarious series of pictures.

Elsa and I!

Carson came home on Sunday night and we went to a local park to walk around.

He'd bought us both Harvard sweatshirts while he was there, so I made him model his for the camera.
